Nikon Kit Lens vs 35mm Prime Lens

Hi Sanjiv, a kit lens, will never give you the sharpness of a prime, but having said that, there are excellent zoom lens available in the market—especially the fixed aperture ones. The choice of lens also depends on what you are shooting. For example I mainly shoot birds and wildlife; hence, I have invested in a telephoto and never upgraded from my kit lens for the standard focal length. I find that pretty useful. So, I feel it all depends on your choice of shooting and what you want out of it.
